North Allegheny senior Rachel Martindale, one of the WPIAL’s top players, committed to Akron. A 5-foot-9 guard who is an outstanding shooter, Martindale also had offers from Youngstown State, Saint Francis (PA) and Morehead State.
Martindale was named first-team all-state and was a Post-Gazette Fabulous 5 selection her junior season when she averaged 15.3 points and six rebounds per game. In three years as a starter, she has 186 3-pointers and 1,002 points. She helped North Allegheny go 56-3 and win two WPIAL titles the past two seasons.
